At the PLM Legacy Foundation, change starts with collaboration. We greatly value the expertise of other local and national organizations, and don’t intend to recreate any wheels. Instead, we aim to bring together existing knowledge, strategies and resources to craft solutions that our tailored to the unique needs of our community.

Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions
“A national gun violence crisis has given rise to a chorus of passionate voices, driven by tragedy, loss, and moral outrage. But passion is not enough. It takes research - objective, credible data - to give substance to the passion to power effective gun violence prevention advocacy. That is what we do.” As the leading US public health research institution, Hopkins brings trusted knowledge to the table in policy development and operationalization. They have contributed to development of critical gun laws, such as the Red Flag law, which would have saved Peter’s life if implemented. Our partners are now working closely with our foundation to help train those responsible for implementation to help ensure similar tragedies don’t occur again.
The UVA Gun Violence Solutions Project
“The UVA Gun Violence Solutions Project (GVSP) is a university-wide effort to develop, implement, and assess actionable solutions to reduce gun violence. The project is taking a holistic approach, beginning with developing and applying solutions at a local level in the Charlottesville region, while also exploring law and policy and the history and cultural factors that shape gun violence.“ We are fortunate to have one of the Nation’s top Universities in our backyard, and are working closely with their legal and mental health experts to better understand drivers of and solutions to gun violence in the Charlottesville area, and connect to those valued organizations who can facilitate change.
Moms Demand Action
“Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. We pass stronger gun laws and work to close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. We also work in our own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know that gun violence is preventable, and we’re committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.” Moms Demand Action is leading the charge in demanding stronger laws in our community. They have strong ties to local legislators and organizations that are driving change. If you’re interested in local advocacy, this is a great place to start.
Our goal is to create a local consortium of partners who are interested in addressing the intersection of mental health crisis and gun violence.
