As a small, community-based foundation, we can’t succeed without your help.

We need your boots on the ground to spark change.

There are a lot of great organizations who are working hard to impact change and doing great work at the National and even state-level. We’re different. We’re focused on our immediate community - our beautiful community in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s up to us to translate the great work of our partners into a action - locally, in a way that makes sense to us. Contact us at PLMlegacyhelp@gmail.com to get started. Here is what we need:

Volunteer Community Educators: Understanding the laws and navigating the system when someone you know or love is in crisis or when you feel your safety or the safety of others is at risk can be incredibly challenging. We need volunteers to help us with our in-person outreach to ensure knowledge is never a barrier to safety. We’ll educate you so you can educate others.

Communication Campaign Volunteers: Are you already engaged in a community organization? Do you have a large presence on social media? We need your help to spread our campaign message (“speak up and act”) to your network. We can’t prevent violence if we’re all silent when warning signs arise. Supplies (e.g., flyers, banners & stickers) will be provided.

Volunteer/Contract Digital Engagement Specialists: We want to hear from our neighbors when they need us, and we’re hoping this means we’ll have a full in-box and active social media. We need 1-2 volunteers or contractors to help us respond to needs - and direct our neighbors to resources - in a timely manner. Our goal is to eventually transition to staff community navigators to take a more active role in connecting individuals to mental health resources and assisting in custody and risk orders. We, or a partner organization, will need funding to do so.

Volunteer Advocates: We are partnered with Moms Demand Action. For now our goal is to direct as many local volunteers to them as possible to support our local advocacy needs - including writing your local legislator. However, we would love some volunteers to help us ensure we have as many neighbors engaged as possible. The safety of our community will only be a priority for legislators if we tell them it’s a priority to us.

We are also seeking local partner organizations to join a consortium aimed to more effectively and efficiently address mental health crises and prevent violence in Albemarle County & Charlottesville City. Join below.

Ready to engage with us?

Note which opportunity you are seeking. Be patient please! We’ll add you to a list and follow-up when we’re ready to host our volunteer engagement or consortium kick-off meeting. Thanks!
